PICK YOUR OWN FLOWERS - COMING FOR 2026 SEASON!
I'm Anna, owner of Roosts & Roots Flower Farm.
My amazing husband, Michael is the one that helps me complete the never ending projects, and support my ambitious goals!
We are a family of 4! We purchased our micro farm, just under 2 acres, in Hagersville, a small town in Haldimand County, Ontario, and moved to our happy place June of 2024!
We did not grow up in farming families, but in cities instead. We knew we wanted an entire life style change with a guiding purpose of spending more time outdoors with our kids and our mini zoo!
Michael, not too thrilled with the last minute changes to the chicken coop building plans to install this fun shaped window!
We wanted to capture what we created in a year of owning our little farm, to show our customers and supporters that behind Roosts and Roots there is a family business. The spring, summer, and autumn days are long and tiring, the kids are muddy 99% of the time and running wild and free, dinner is later than it should be, endless projects and tasks to be completed...but we're home, and we're together.
These beautiful photographs were taken by a local photographer, Alycia Presta (by the way she's amazing!) on the hottest evening in July of 2025! Although the pictures turned out beautiful, we were just a hot mess, literally! The kids and I were irritable because of the heat, and gathering everyone for a photo was like herding cats!
We started with the chickens first because we've dreamed of one day having a flock of tiny dinosaurs, which became a reality for us in 2024, hence Roosts!
And the Roots covers everything and anything that is grown on our farm which includes an abundance of flowers and seasonal produce (garlic, pumpkins, onions).
The last deciding factor of choosing the name was R&R, which can also stand for Rest & Relaxation. To us, being outdoors, in nature, in the elements, amongst the sounds of the chickens clucking about near you, and the sound of all the wild birds is relaxing to the mind. Farming is not for everyone that's for sure! There is always something that needs to be done, fixed, or macgyvered whether it's a beautiful summer day, or the dead of winter; it keeps our bodies active and engaged, also tired, but happy.
(Ever wonder how/where the word macqyvered came about? I did and here's what I found!)
