Almost 80% of the fresh flowers sold are not grown in North America, but in Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Netherlands and Israel. Shipping flowers from those countries incurs huge transportation, energy, refrigeration, and storage costs, with an enormous environmental impact.
Imported flowers are often cut a week or more before they arrive in customers hands. Locally grown flowers can be cut in the morning and on your dining room table that same evening. Flowers grown at R&R are cut either early in the morning or late in the evening for farmers market, farm stand, subscriptions, or special orders.
At R&R we do not use any pesticides on our flowers or produce we grow. For bug management we use safe insecticidal soap that does not harp beneficial bugs such as butterflies, lady bugs, pollinators.
The production and sale of locally grown cut flowers contribute to a community's economy, and provide employment and valuable agricultural experience to young people.
Flowers reduce stress and improve your mood. Flowers can be connected to a time, a place, a person, a season, an event. They have a story and you're a part of it.
